SA 516 Grade 70N is a specially treated carbon steel pressure vessel plate that’s designed to offer enhanced toughness and strength. Its chemical makeup generally includes carbon (up to ~0.30%), manganese, silicon, phosphorus, and sulfur, all kept within controlled limits to satisfy NACE requirements for sour service. The “N” signifies normalization, which improves the grain structure and impact resistance. On the mechanical side, it boasts a minimum tensile strength of about 485–620 MPa and a minimum yield strength of 260 MPa, along with impressive notch toughness and resistance to hydrogen-induced cracking.
